Valve Cap Sealing

I seem to be having some trouble getting a good seal on my 1930 Model B valve caps only using copper gaskets. I've cleaned the faces of the barrel and valve caps, and annealed the gaskets, but they are still leaking. Does anyone use a compound to assist sealing?
