Re: Clutch needle roller journal
You have quite a bit of wear in the short spline and no doubt the clutch centre as well. You will be up for quite a bit if you do the lot. Nev

Hi Dave
In my opinion, that's brinelling and the choice is between living with it knowing that things will get progressively worse or rectifying it.
Brinelling does not always manifest itself on both bearing races, have a look at the outer it may well be unmarked in which case replacing / sleeving just the inner, a new set of rollers and cage will last for many thousands of miles. Doing nothing will last as long as you're prepared to put up with increasing noise. I've seen rollers and races crack in high stress situations but it's not likely on a classic bike.
Regards Mick

Thanks Mick and Nev for your input and advice.
No way would I put knackered parts back together! Far too much respect for the machine to do that.
Replacement used shaft is on the way from Geoff the club gearbox man. Hopefully that will make a difference, If not I'll look for a new shaft, or grinding and sleeving.
The outer race looked ok but Ill check it again. New rollers are a definite.
Will check the fit of the centre on the splines in due course...
