VB600 Inlet x Exhaust vales

Post by Luiz.Spegiorin »

I´m rebuilding a VB600 1951 engine, and I'd like to know if there is any difference among inlet valve and exhaust valve, or if I could use the same for each purpose.
In other words, can I use one inlet valve as exhaust valve? Do they have the same size, shape and constituition (for different purposes)?
Best regards,

Hi Luiz, I was always told if the valve is magnetic inlet only, exhaust none magnetic I don't know if that is right or not, Regards Clive.

Generally, if you put an inlet valve in the exhaust it will burn (this is a common problem with BSA A10/Ariel FH 650 twin where the valves are dimensionally the same but if you mix them up you burn out the one in the exhaust).
Exhaust valves are made of materials with more heat resistance, I would advise to not use two inlet valves.

Exhaust valves have a very hard life in an air-cooled sidevalve and, although an inlet valve will fit, it may not last long under the stress.

New VB exhaust valves are available from club spares.

Where people have done this with an Indian chief usually the valve heads come off and wreck the cylinder and head and bend the conrod. Side valves exhausts need extra good metal as the combustion is not that efficient or quick as a good OHV. Nev

Thank you everybody!
Now I know I have to buy the correct one exhaust valve.

Who could help me with the right person in the club to talk about buying this valve?
I´m trying to talk with Mr. Allan trought the e-mail "singlesspares@arielownersmcc.com", but no answer...
Is there another one who could help me with this CORRECT item?

Best regards,

Luiz you might be able to locally source a truck exhaust valve that can be adapted to your sample. There must be experts in this stuff in Brazil. Nev

If anyone is having trouble contacting Allan I would suggest that you ask the spares co-ordinator to help, as it is his job to sort out problems with club spares. sparescoordinator@arielownersmcc.com
