DKX4 Distributor 1958 SQ4

Post by andy.cossies »

Hi All, I've found the drive gear on my Lucas DKX4 distributor is badly worn, the worm gear on the dynamo armature shaft could also use renewal. First question, anybody know where I can get hold of the 12 tooth driven gear mounted on the bottom of the distributor? Dragonfly have them on backorder for the last 3 years and are not confident of getting some any time soon! So a good 2nd hand one would suffice.

Second question, in order to change the worm gear on the dynamo armature shaft, do I need to remove the complete dynamo first or can it be replaced through the timing chest access?

All advice will be gratefully received.

If you are in the UK then have a look at Lucas distributors on eBay - here is a DKX4 with a 12 tooth drive gear:

although you should check with the seller that it is the one you seek.
Have you tried the Distributor Doctor? You can find him online by googling.
Square 4 mk1, Square 4 mk2, BSA C12.
