The PA speedo has a flex speed of 2240. The chronometric has a flex speedo of 1910. If you have the wrong gearing, 1910/2240 or 2240/1910 will be the factor by which it is wrong. Riding past one of those signs which tell you whether you are breaking the speed limit or not is a good way to check.
Ariel first fitted the chronometric speedo in 1939 when it was driven from the front wheel. I suspect you may have postwar gears in a prewar gearbox shell.
