prewar sidestand
Hello, I wonder if someone has started a reproduction of side stands for prewar bikes. Does anyone has a drawing, picture of one, so I can make one. Regards Henning

Re: prewar sidestand
A few people have made these over the years, not easy to make and not very successful in use apparently. If you want a practical side stand I would suggest a clamp on type. Such as https://draganfly.co.uk/shop/83842/clam ... iel/#PA-36

Re: prewar sidestand
I have one. I seem to remember that It is for the right hand side which is unusual. They are not know to be great.

Re: prewar sidestand
I made a side stand sometime ago that has proved to be very stable unlike the purchased ones, the stand is for a 1952 frame which has a fitting lug on the lower near side.
I am not sure whether this is what you are looking for so have attached some pic's, if it is what you require I have all the data and drawings to which you are very welcome.

Re: prewar sidestand
That's interesting. Does it stick out much in the 'up' position?
cheers

Re: prewar sidestand
I have one of these on my 4G.
I would advise you to follow Roger's advice, but if you insist, I do have photos and dimensions. Note that the spring to hold the stand in place doesn't work on my bike because I am missing the relevant lug it attaches to. This may be because my bike left the factory for sidecar use.

I think the original one is out of the question, because it’s simply is placed on the wrong side for me. I will make one myself. I have never come across one placed on the RH side. Thanks for all your pictures and comments..

Re: prewar sidestand
my variation on the theme.
the upper bolt is longer and sticks in to the small alloy block that keeps the plot from rotating
I think the jiffy is Triumph, the rest is unknown and DIY.

Re: prewar sidestand
Here are a couple of picture of the pre war side stand.
"They used the existing 5/8" diameter sidecar holes in the engine plates and have made up a spacer between the plates and used a 5/8" s/steel stud to hold the lot together. On the RE stand, removed the right arm, welded a thick walled tube on the back and welded another bracket at the back of the tube that is used to stop rotation of the stand by anchoring the assembly to the bottom mounting".
Hope this helps.
Some other members have also used a side stand from a modern Royal Enfield that can be bought off Ebay and adapted.
Details of what they did are:"They used the existing 5/8" diameter sidecar holes in the engine plates and have made up a spacer between the plates and used a 5/8" s/steel stud to hold the lot together.
