The cause both of magnetos coming loose and of poor earthing between magneto and frame is painting of the engine plate, or even worse, powder coating of it. I never paint (or powder coat) the magneto platform, top or bottom, because loose magnetos were a common problem amongst those of us running Ariels as schoolboys in the early 1970s.
There is always enough oil about to prevent the engine plate from rusting if you leave the remains of the old paint on it round the edge.

Johnny, I did that when I reassembled my magneto.

Cap heads fitted to the mag, cut a long allen key and turnd a ball end in the lathe.

Used this with a 3/8" drive socket and extension piece.
