Front fork !
Looks like a brake arm point + more was once welded in between the legs and someone took it out again by banging the angle grinder in it. he almost made a 'hole in one' And -ofcourse- it's not straight.
Cleaned and welded that scar up and build a jig (lump of steel beam from my 'stock') to be able to wrench it straight again, what fun lower part I could bend cold, the upper part needed some heat input.
cleaned up the top eyes. Now on to fitting the new spindles & bushes from Karol soooooo nice ! Also from Karol, new upper links (and lower ones), polished them up to get them Nickel plated. And the first batch for nickel plating

and today, Eastern....I made myself useful by making a slightly different rocker cover

Hi Vincent.
I like it when you post photos like that. With your thread, everyone can be convinced that many, seemingly complex jobs can be done at home in the shed. Many of us are thinking about how to fix our Ariel and your instructions prove that it is not difficult. All you have to do is take courage and get started.

bending a new handlebar.
The Model C came with a handlebar (see pic at the start of this thread).
Someone (again!) had gone through the trouble to make it and the bends look correct but he used 25mm tubing.
Ofcourse thats not good enough!
I altered the functioning of the tube bender I made for the lower frame tubes, I was not satisfied by it's 'performance'.
Filled the 1" tube with fine silica sand at one end welded shut, other end closed off with a wooden stopper. lubed the tube and sliding block for good measure.
It looked like it went o.k. ...... But no, not good enough, inner curve got pushed inward.

You really need a mandrel bender to do that bending successfully, it is difficult with sand as it has to be dry and well compacted. Hi Roger, yes it's getting somewhat masochistic trying to do this tube bending.
but it's not nice to accept defaet so....
I turned up some sort of mandrel, not one with those moving bits but a straight bar with a knob at the end.
heat up the handlebar that I just made near the bend and try to push (or probably wriggle ) the dent out
plan is to add a slide hammer bit on the other end as i expect that this thing is going to stick...hmmm watch this space

But why decided on Stainless?
The controls are Nickel plated, that dulls over time, stainless wont.

If stainless is warmed up by polishing or in an oven it will go a nickle colour. I sincerely hope they are 1". Stainless saves the cost and time of plating, which is not cheap these days. I expect that if you wanted a bare steel one they would make you one.
