Renovating a Dynamo
I'm in the position to renovate my dynamo E3L M
I note that Rexs-Speedshop have a range of new armatures and field coils available.
https://www.rexs-speedshop.com/product- ... amo-parts/
Has anybody had experience of using parts from here?
Thanks

Re: Renovating a Dynamo
I have previously ordered a new field coil from them, having looked at several options online, their image showed a field coil with the connectors attached, whereas the other were not. It was more expensive than others I had seen, but I went ahead and ordered it.
Guess what, it arrived without connectors! I was a bit p****d off, as I then had to locate and buy the correct type of connectors, and attach then to the bare wire ends. So make sure exactly what you are getting when you order.
On the plus side, the field coil itself worked fine.

Pete - where did you find the connectors?
I had to find some 'ends' for a field coil recently and didn't have any luck buying any.

Re: Renovating a Dynamo
Andrew Guttman of Priory Magneto's sourced all the parts I required for the rebuild of my '42 WNG dynamo, and not at all expensive.

Re: Renovating a Dynamo
Well, I have bitten the bullet and the kit arrived today.
Looks good, but only building and running it will tell how good/how long it lasts.

Re: Renovating a Dynamo
The dynamo is now reassembled with a new 12V field coil and12V armature.
Polarised for +ve ground.
Motored in the correct CW direction looking from DE.
Before I fit up to the bike, I wouldnt mind checking the output of the dynamo.
How fast should I have to spin it to get the expected 12V output?
(Can I measure the output by spinning it? I think that I should be able to by shorting F & D and to -ve of the meter, and the body to +ve on the meter. )

Re: Renovating a Dynamo
Dynamo now fully assembled and fitted to the NH.
Ammeter is balanced at an indicated 30mph in top gear using a 50W H4 filament headlight bulb and 5W filament tail bulb, oh and a 12V AGM battery.
Will next be investigating LED bulb equivalents.
