Ariel identification, approx 1925
Dear Veterans,
got these pics from a family photo album for an identification.
My guess, 1925 Sports with different front wheel and gearbox.

The gearbox and front vee rim brake denote a 1923 or 1924, the only difference that I know of between those two is the tank transfer and the one in the pic does not look very original. MS is a Stirlingshire registration used 1903-1930

I think it’s 1924 as my 1925 sports model has a different gearbox.

Many years ago I owned this 1925 Ariel. It was very tricky to find missing bits. I think its still somewhere in Germany.

Re: Ariel identification, approx 1925
I think the picture is of a 23 sports special. As Rein says the 25 had a different gearbox,it also had 2 piece handle bars drum front brake, this pic has the correct forks for the dummy brake which Ariel used only for approx. a year, I have some paperwork somewhere on various years of W/P Ariels but its just finding the stuff is my problem.Ariel did a great job of keeping the veteran engine going until 1925, as W/P stopped producing this motor in 1909.A great original photo though.

Re: Ariel identification, approx 1925
That's correct Adrie, but it was not in their 1910 catalogue,it seemed Ariel then seemed to take it over, unless it was only made for Ariel by W/P, and no body else. It was altered a few times in the next 15 years to try to modernise it a little. but by 25 it was still basically an early veteran engine. If you have any info on W/P and AKD I would really like to see it some time.hope all is well with you, have a good day.
