John
Below is a CP but just the same as BA
Fit the selector mechanism in the main case.
Remove the 'locating bolt' from the outer case
Lower the outer case over the studs. Move the selector splined shaft as required so it fits through the case and the studs line up. Then with a screwdriver or similar make sure that the 'gap' between the plates either side of the main selector 'springs' are central in the bolt hole
Fit and tighten the locating bolt
Hope this helps
Cheers
Alan

Re: BA Gearbox hints & tips
On the subject of having to strip the mainshaft to replace the rear drive sprocket.....BAs on other bikes (Panther/Vincent/MatchlessAJS Model X) are dimensioned so the sprocket just fits over the enlarged end of the mainshaft......the difference is not great, and IMHO ,there is no reason why some small notches couldnt be ground in the Ariel boss to allow the sprocket to come off.The boss has no particular load on it ,and serves to locate a thrust washer in each type of bike.(All boxes have the same sprocket spline dimensions.)
