correct magnet setting for Ariel 4F / 1932

Post by Karol Burger »

Hello friends. I am asking you for advice. I'm trying to finish the renovation of the 4F / 1932 engine and I'm starting to think about the right setting of the distributor and magnet for this model. :?: can any of you advise me on how to proceed? is there already an open discussion on this topic on this forum?

Hi Karol,
The original magdyno from the cammy is not very reliable with respect to temperature sensitivity. In my case it worked fine the first 10 km and than with increasing engine and magdyno temperature it stopped working. In the end i installed an electronic iginition from Beck eletronics , see photo, and all ignition problems were solved. This electronic ignition includes an automatic advance and a LED to help set the ignition at TDC.
Regards
Hanno

thanks for advice. I will try to keep the original ignition, if I often show any errors, later I switch to electronic. I am mainly interested in how the magnet is timed correctly for this model.

Timing is 5/16 inch before TDC , but you will find that this will not be correct for the other cylinder as the 180 degree of the 2 contact points is not perfect, you could take an approximate average of the two poditions....
Good luck
