Faulty flasher

Post by BobAtkinson »

Whilst rewiring my '59 Leader my" sparks" man discovered that the Lucas indicator flasher unit has totally corroded from the inside of the unit and is beyond even his skills to repair. After trying all the usual suppliers (or at least the ones that I know!) it would appear that these 3 pin 6 volt flasher units are no longer available. Have any Leader owners out there had similar problems and possibly fitted a suitable substitute (possibly a Japanese type)? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as this small simple piece of equipment is causing major delays in completing the wiring on this project. Hope you can help. - Bob Atkinson - Kings Lynn

Hi Bob, I had a similar fault on my Leader about a year ago. Obtained a replacement from John Ellis the 2 Stroke Spares specialist. The new flasher was a spade connector type, so had to modify the loom slightly, but worked a treat. Hope this helps.

Hi Roger - Thanks for your prompt reply. I have fired an email off to John Ellis, as you suggested, asking whether he has the item in stock. I will let you know the outcom. Thanks again - Bob Atkinson, Kings Lynn.

Hi, Try Vehicle Wiring of Ilkeston Derbyshire for the 6 volt flasher unit. Brain H.

Hi Brian - Thanks for your advice. Vehicle Wiring Products (my electrical supplier of choice) do indeed supply the required flasher unit. I was just about to place an order with VWP when John Ellis, the club two stroke man, offered to supply the same item together with some other Leader parts. In the interest of club funds I have decided to go with the AOMCC - two stroke spares, in this instance, but I really do apprecieate your input Brian. Best regards - Bob Atkinson, Kings Lynn, Member no 6990.

Hello Bob, Thats exactly what I wouuld have done, the club is a very good source of spares and advice.

Regards Brian H.

ps there are other riders of Leaders/Arrows who are a good source of advice and spares + newly made parts , who meet up on the Stafford show stand and Rallies , when they happen, that is .
