Re: MAG EARTHING
Well worth doing, especially if you've been painting things. It'll help both the mag spark
and the dynamo generate.
Don't forget there are two brushes in the magneto. One feeds the HT lead and the other,
at the other end of the mag, is the 'official' return for the current that went off to make the spark.
It's there, along with the paper cups which the magneto bearing outer races sit in, to stop
that returning current from eroding the magneto bearings
and the dynamo generate.

Re: MAG EARTHING
The 4 terminals on your regulator unit read FADE. The"E" has to have a good contact with the case of the generator or it won't work. Nev

Hi Johnny
Are you getting confused by the kill terminal which is sometimes present on the points cover of the mag? this is normally connected to a push to contact switch and on to earth, it's purpose is to kill the engine when the switch is pressed.
In my experience the mag earths via the brush at the drive end and onward through it's body and mounting fasteners to the engine. If your mag doesn't mount directly to the engine and you've insulated it's mount, (with paint or powder coat for example), you coul;d run a bonding strap from one of the mounting bolts to the engine.
Regards Mick

Re: MAG EARTHING
I'd use the earth point on a single but have never bothered on a twin. The K2F is flange mount and should get a decent earth to the engine; the magdyno earth to the engine is questionable - the foot sits on a painted plate, and the 'connection' to the timing chest has a big rubber gasket...
cheers

Re: MAG EARTHING
Go from the Mag base to the 1/4 26 tpi bolt under the seat and the regulator and run a good earth past the steering head bearings, and your hinged mud guard at the rear to the taillight body. That will take care of all your earthing. Nev
