Clamped small ends are about but not common on bike engines. I don't think it's an ariel. Nev

Post by Paul Slootheer »

Gentleman,
For sure Ariel used the clamped small ends on their 1929 250cc Colt engine’s!
This is conrod partnumber A6/525 and partnumber A6/308…

I'm not suggesting it is not an ariel because of the clamped rod, but are the early motors fitted with 2 camshafts? I don't recognise anything very "ariel" about it, but I've been wrong before. Nev

Hi Nev, links below to rod and cam's.
I reckon there were a pair on Aus ebay fairly recently?
I prefer "accidentally incorrect" or "slightly adjacent to correct" - or even "almost right" - they have a much better ring..
I'll be the bloke who is measuring KH bits tomorrow, to see how "slightly imperfect" my advice was...

Well thank heaven for parts books. Takes the guesswork out of being close. I tend to look for familiaral resemblence in identification.of manufacturers. Sometimes you can easily pick out stuff designed by Page, Turner and Hopwood. Nev
