Burman Q series gearbox

Post by Richard Kal »

Hi all,
I am resurrecting this gearbox and clutch assembly, from a 1927 Model A.

I am seeking answers for the following qns:

What was the original finish for the inspection cover (painted, or cadmium plated)?

Where can I source a kickstarter retrun spring?

Who can supply clutch parts?

I need:
Outer basket
Inner hub
Main nut (hub to tapered shaft)

Many thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,
The AUD is good against the Euro at the moment.
Is this the one? They may have other bits for it lying around.

The spring covers which I've seen have always been plated (execpt for one rare aluminium cover). I've always just assumed that they are nickel but maybe someone here has a better idea?

I take it you've tried the clubs spares and Black spares for the spring?

If they don't have one then you could try these sites. Neither of the sites show everything that they have so a call or email is the way to go.

Cornucopia used to have various vintage Burmans parts.

British Only are worth trying.

Gearbox Spares do Q-box kickstarter springs. I think they have also had Q-box clutch baskets remade. Assuming you are a club member of course...(hint, hint).
