'57 VH 500 - New Member
Hi
just to introduce myself before I ask any stupid questions - I'm sure I'll have loads. I'm a long time petrol head with most of my spanner work being on off road Jeeps and my daily driver/rider is a 2016 Road King. Living on the South Coast my riding season is about 51 weeks a year
This is my first foray into classic Brit Bikes is this 1957 (I believe) Red Hunter. She's a runner, if I get the combination of ignition/throttle/crank position right she fires first kick, but the snagging list is growing every time I look at her or fettle something.
My first priority will be to get her into a good running condition so I can enjoy riding. Eventually I'll sort out the paintwork on the tins and frame - she's never going to be a purist's bike, I'll try to keep her as original as possible but I will be compromising where necessary to improve reliability and ride ability.
Cheers
Woody

That’s a nice bike; I wouldn’t do too much, other than ride it!
I also have a HD as a regular rider; a Heritage Springer.

That is one very nice, largely original machine.

Steve
Thanks for the heads up, it’ll probably be on the Road King for a while as the VH is probably using moe engine & gearbox oil per mile than petrol
Regards

Welcome to the club. Your VH looks to have all the right bits and be very original. Air filters are like rocking horse droppings! As Steve says lots of knowledge in the Hampshire group. I bought my 1957 VH from one of them last year. He had completely rebuilt it in 2010. I love the bike and it was rebuilt beautifully. I don't think there is much about 1957 VH's that Alan doesn't know.
Enjoy the bike, once the teething troubles are out of the way it will be wonderful. Just don't expect too much from the front brake!
