1938 ARIEL SQUARE FOUR CLUTCH PUSH ROD

Could soomeone help with the following---
1) what should be the length of the clutch push-rod on my 1938 square four as the one I have is very damaged

2) Ideally how much should the push-rod move during it's operation. ie the amount the the operating plunger (3050-35) moves in and out

There are no easy answers to this one Ralph so I suggest going with whatever is standard. I have had problems for some time with a conflict between the clutch arm and my right boot, both on the Square and the RH500. The RH500 is now much better after adjustment but if I tell you that it took me half a day to get the adjustment "right" on a bike I have owned and run for upwards of 30 years, perhaps you will see how sensitive this can be. So work to standards to begin with and adjust subsequently to suit yourself ( and the size / style of your riding boots !)

Hi Paul, I was a little confused as the rust damaged push rod I took out my bike is 13-7/16" long but about looks right for the BA gearbox and clutch----so I ordered a new rod from Dragonfly (ref-3430-36) and it's only 12-3/4" long and realised it is too short---have you any ideas?

The short rod would be for a single rather than the Sq.

With Draganfly not listing anything even close to your dimension I'd be checking the clutch for conformity with the original design. A missing ball bearing if applicable would only account for 5/16"

Thanks for your reply Mick, this was my dad's bike who ran it for many years with a side car and still with the original BA gearbox and clutch--Yes the ball is in place and is still too short but the 13-7/16" push rod seems about right.
