Steel push rods

Post by T Batnes »

Looking for a decent pair of steel pushrods to fit on my 350 iron head engine - they need to be 1/4" longer than standard, as I have fitted a single lobe cam with 1" base circle diameter instead of the original twin lobe/1,5" diameter cam. I can possibly use 500 pushrods and shorten them myself.

So you MAY find that you need to experiment. There's a height above the top face of the head that is common to all engines to aim for. IF I knew it I would be able to provide it You need to be within a millimeter to have the adjustment in the right place for the valve lifter to function properly. Nev

I've heard that the Draganfly steel pushrods are a tad too thick, and thus too heavy? Therefore I try to get oem ones. I first measured how high the 350 pushrods are above the rocker box gasket face with the original cam, and then how much they dropped with the new cam. It is between 5-6 mm, different on fore/aft pushrod. So new pushrods must be 5-6mm longer than the 350 iron head ones.

My parts list shows the same pushrod for the 350 with either the twin lobe cam or the later 1951 single lobe
cam. The followers from the twin lobe cam might fit with a single lobe cam but the followers for the single lobe cam
are different from the twin lobe followers.

The twin lobe cam A7/642 used from 1939 has the same 1" base circle as the single lobe cam so uses the same length pushrods. The earlier F cam and the A6/664 cam have a 1.5" base circle so need pushrods 1/4" shorter than those for the later cams.

Oh dear, I need to read the post more carefully before resorting to keyboard.

So, should the pushrods from any 350 from 1939 to 1954 do here?

Thanks for all useful information - I must then be on the look out for a pair of 350 pushrods, -39 and upwards to -56. I'm going to Stafford next weekend, maybe something turns up there. But if someone here has got a pair they could get rid off, I'm happy to take it off your hands :)
