Panel tank clock...cheap copy

Have literally just come across a cheap alternative to an original or repro Smiths 8 day clock. I know this may be frowned upon by those who put a premium on originality, but for me it is worth a punt to fill in the gaping hole in my tank panel for the time being.

It is the one on the right. Fits in a 2" diameter aperture and is 6mm deep. Battery powered. Best of all £10.95 + VAT + P&P, about £20 in all Just ordered one so i will post if it fits/is any good when it arrives.

That seems like a good idea, I have a dranganfly one and yes they are not cheap! It runs off a button battery it says on the paper work the battery lasts six months. I didn't fancy changing the battery every six months. So I got myself a AA battery holder and soldered wires from the cell conductors in the clock to the battery holder. I glued some velcro inside the tank to stop the battery holder moving around. Two years on the battery is still going strong. It should last years before it needs changing. Lee

Clock arrived today. For the price I am very pleased with it...even came with a spare battery.
I don't think it is waterproof, although it looks as though it is sealed up. We shall see. I can always stick a bit of tape over it if I get caught in a downpour.

It comes with a ridged rubber ring around it that compresses when you push it into a nominal 52mm aperture. I found that the aperture in my repo panel and an original panel were 1 to 2 mm too large so had to use a piece of 'U' section rubber to compensate. It's in there pretty tight but I think I will attach something to the back to 'tether' it in case it vibrates loose.

The speedo is a £18 Indian made version fitted to fill up the hole for the time being as I do not have a PA or the funds to buy one and the panel lamp is another £8 repro, again there to fill the hole for the time being till something more original comes up at a reasonable price. Also I don't have to worry too much if some tealeaf takes a liking to them.
The '1939' on the odometer is just a bit of fun.

Oil gauge is an original with a new glass and bezel and a repro stick on dial from Club spares.

The rear of the indian speedo looks like a chronometric ?
I thought the indian, enfield type speedos had a far longer rear which made them unsuitable for panel tanks

I ask as I have a project in the garage without one and am not precious at all about what goes on it ...

They have started to sell this newer version, HOWEVER it is still too deep to fit in the panel tank. I had to cut off the speedo cable boss and most of the securing studs, the body just fits with a thick O ring under the bezel which is supplied with the speedo. My gearbox has a blanked off speedo drive and the tanks for a PA so this speedo is just to fill the hole.

The body is 50mm deep from under the bezel and the cable boss about another inch.

Another issue is that the white triangle which appears next to the 40/50/60 mph etc is missing from the 30 mph position. Maybe it was just the supplier I got it from but I contacted them and they said all the others they had were the same. They asked me to choose something else to the same price so i got a couple of 'lucas' ammeters for free

I have been searching google for a 80mm ( gps ?) type speedo for reasonable money ... It'll probably mount in the top yoke, so clearance is still an issue for the indian type speedos ...

John,
Just remember the GPS ones aren't legal but I am sure the chances of you falling foul of the law are minimal. It's more the case of how an insurance company views it if your bike gets examined after an accident.
