W/NG Lucas switch

Post by LuisPaz »

Months ago I bought this switch in the USA to install in my 1944 WNG.
I had to wait for a friend who made a trip to Miami, to be able to bring him to my country.
Could it be WD by the "T" test?
Thanks in advance!

Definitely military. The T position is 'Tail' in this instance, which is for convoy use - it connects the tail light terminal to the battery. You get tail light only - no pilot or headlamp.
cheers

As I understand it ,that switch does most of them except the 1944 OTA, which has a distinct position with TEST shown. the switching is different the way it works also. I've only seen one like that. John Nash probably has the clues on this Some later ones have the switch under the seat. and the headlamp position is blanked off. Nev

as Nev said, the underseat switch is coupled with a "blanked off" headlamp switch panel (featuring no ammeter) on later machines.

I swapped such a headlamp panel and have seen a couple of others.
I have never seen an underseat switch however ... despite the fact they were fitted to other manufacturers bikes and the production run was likely tens and tens of thousands ...

This under seat switch position -next to the battery- is to save on wiring material to the headlamp.
Although there was more material to gain if Lucas would have left the headlamp shell blank with no aperture and no separate dash.
But Lucas was in darkness as The Prince in those long ago dark days in a different world... ;)
