1929 Channel Crossing re-enactment

Post by ben.mitchell »

There is a plan afoot to re-enact the above, it is being led by 'President' Ariel and he plans a 'starter for ten' with Lake Como in May 2019. I have built the pontoon floats but they need to get down to Saronno in Italy to be fitted with prop shaft and rudders. Is there anyone who is going to the Amsterdam Rally in a car/van with roof rack or a trailer who could collect them from me near Reading? We are unable to attend due to the inopportune date of a family wedding, Ariel will be able to collect them from Amsterdam and take them back to Italy. They are 4.2m long and I have transported them on the roof of my Transit in the past. If you are able to help with this, can you please call me or email direct as I do not monitor the forum. 01491 671418 or benmitch1066@gmail.com

Thanks
Ben

The pontoons are now in Saronno Italy with Ariel Atzori, he and his team are fitting the framework to carry the bike plus propeller and rudders. The project is partly funded by me, partly by Draganfly Motorcycles plus of course the Italian Club (Ariel Atzori). It beats working for a living.

You would need a powerboat license.......and maybe a submarine too.

Thanks John for the advice. Luckily I do have a CEVNI licence which permits me to use a power boat on European waterways (Lake Como) but no doubt this will be a job for El Presidente Ariel. As to crossing the channel, the British authorities have always deemed that we have sufficient of Admiral Nelson's genes in our makeup that we do not need a licence to navigate a boat in our territorial waters...and indeed any other country's territorial waters as long as we own the boat and it is registered in Britain. Oh the joys of being British!...well at least there is ONE joy for us.
...er...I'll get my coat!

Is that for road use or water use? Or do have too resgiter it as a boat?
