Another part that I believe I've had success on was a gear in the Burman gearbox. A sliding gear with 20 and 26 teeth on it had a broken tooth . I searched the rusty metal at my club and came up with a gear the same but without the dogs. As seen here

.
after much deliberation with engineeering firms and other members I decided to have a go myself and successfully managed to anneal it, mill it and reharden, with the aid of a heat treatment oven I built recently.

Of course the proof wont be in until it is running.

The later (no dog) BAP gear is oil hardened 3% nickle steel, and not particularly hard.....you should be able to mill it without annealing........certainly if you use a solid carbide cutter. If you harden the new gear right out,it will likely be too brittle in the teeth.Without using a coating, its also very likely to be decarburized during heating, leaving a soft surface..........Not a criticism, just a few details for reference.
