Nice ! that looks like a South Bend lathe ?

I see you made a spacer with the stepped part , you loose a bit of thread there as 'normally' the stepped part of the nut falls into the cavity at the fork ends.

The spigoted part of the nut should go into the enlarged part of the fork end and that locates it so it won't drop out when no weight on the bike. Parkerise them (Dull Black) If you want them to look original. I've just been making a few complete sets myself. Luckily I had a bike that was original to copy from. The axle is only 1/2 inch dia. Check it's straight. The nut on the brake side is tightened up against the tapered bearing so as to not move when the rest is adjusted. All adjustment is on the non brake side. The thread length has to be as original in that area. Nev

What are you using for Parkerizing, Nev? There are a few kits about, I'm considering which one to use.
cheers

Thin coat of stoved matt black at the moment. Hoping to get the "real" thing going at some stage but not just for me. Need a bigger market. Nev
