Cross drilling SQ4 Crankshaft

Post by Syd.Kallechy »

Square four owners...do any of you have any experience cross-drilling the SQ cranks? I've heard the Healy brothers used to do it. I have a Morgo pump going in so should have lots of oil flow. Also thought it might help lighten up the Crank throws while I am installing the new rods?

At a university I attended years ago the SQ4 cranks were mentioned at a theory of lubrication lecture. The lecturer pointed out that the holes were in the wrong place. If they are where the bearing is loaded mos,t the oil will not enter the bearing, and oil pressure is not the cure. placing the feed hole in a better place is. There is no need to block the original , but of course it would be better if it wasn't there. How much sludeg is trapped in there relates to the hole placement also, but that doesn't sem to be a problem with modern oils. Nev
