The stud and two?? nuts are protruding too far and will foul the rod. The original 5/16th dia stud (where fitted) only clears by 3/16th inch. The threaded end of the rod has two flats to fit the corresponding slot in the brake rod. Nev

Very well spotted Nev! There was an M8 bolt in there, about 40mm long with two nuts, one M8, one M12 castle nut.

All sorted now though - I will post a new picture soon, when the speedo pinion arrives.
cheers

My brake rod has two flats, but the brake arm has a plain hole?

Then it's not the right brake arm. It's definitely a slot. One sneaky way of changing it is to heat the "hole "area quickly and crush it in a vyce to ovalise the hole, then file the outside to shape afterwards so it's still a cylindrical shape. Nev
