WNG Chromed steel timing cover

Amongst the batch of parts purchased earlier in the year is a WNG steel timing cover, which for some unknown reason has been chromed (chrome in not too bad a condition). I know people like to put their own stamp on a bike, but I do wonder if the glint of the sun on the cover would attract an enemy's attention? Most probably done post war through the back door of a chroming works.

Anyway, should anyone want to aquire this unusual item, it is available for £30, with P&P extra. Email contact as in my listings in the spares for sale/wanted section above, which also includes two WNG pistons.

I am sure it can be coverted back to standard appearance with a thick coat of an appropriate paint.

We've had this come up before.
I know a chap here had what looked like a later WNG cover in aluminium and my mate Wayne also has one in alloy....

I wondered if ariel simply re-used the earlier cover style as they had the masters/moulds and it was an appropriate shape for stamping the mid-war steel covers from ?

I checked it with a magnet which stuck well onto the surface, so I would think it is steel. I have heard of chrome plated aluminium alloy, but think it is not an easy task to plate it. The weight is also greater when compared to an alloy cover

The edges are curved around for strength on the steel ones. Easy to pick. The (rare) pressed alloy ones are probably useless except for hanging on the wall. Nev

Yes you're right, they touched the photo up, took the background away with a knife, tuned it up with white lines on the tubes and so the speedo cable from the box was lost.
The difficulty is; was this rebuilt to civilian done by the factory or a prived person, i think the last becouse this is not a factory quality picture.

You can see the hole in the frontwheel and the Ariel sticker on the tank is on the strip with screwholes.
A trials tire at the rear, a lined at the front.
The light is even shining under the saddle.
