Interesting! I was only asked a couple of days ago if I had a photo of Wal. Murphy. He was a stalwart of the MCCSA, but also responsible for establishing over-arching motorcycle bodies (think ACU) in other states. In another life, he was an advocate for blood donation services and established organisations to facilitate this.
Re the Ariel: the problem here in Australia is that, unlike in the UK, registration numbers don't stay with a bike for life. This number, for example, dates from about 1915 and no-doubt now lives on a modern Merc, BMW or Porsche.
