Ariel Red Hunter Bobber

Post by steve.dampier »

Here's my Ariel 500 Red Hunter Bobber!

First thing to say it was built up from parts, so no complete bike was cut up in this process. The bike was my daily ride 30 years ago but sat in a shed until 4 years ago when I decided to get it back on the road with a different look.

Engine is 1954, frame is 1952. Very light bike, so goes well. 4 pot caliper front brake is good in modern day traffic.

I guess you can have fun on it without hurting yourself, and it's not bulk dollars and nothing's monstered. I've seen some really exquisite art work in the construction of these things. I reckon the 1,000 cc HD iron Sportster is the basis of the most classic bikes of this type. The "obvious" V Twin engine seems de Rigueur.. I'm a bit of a convert to Vee Twins in motorcycles. Nothing fits into the frame of a bike better. One cylinder with a "helper" Nev

I agree.
The V- Twin is a great set up in a road bike. My last 10 modern bikes have all been V- Twins, plenty of torque and a slim width profile combined with an engine of character.

An Ariel single is very different to most other bikes of this type and so gets a lot of attention wherever I go on it. The modifications have made it a great bike for riding locally. I ride it every week all through the year and my 2013 Ducati tends to sit in the garage as the Ariel is the choice to hop on and fly around.

Is that a Hardly-Ableson front end?

I have a collection of parts me and my dad are looking at turning in to a "Special" and the main goal is to have a brake that works and still keep the spoked wheel.
