4G Crankshaft oil seal washer

Post by Alec.Elliot »

Good evening Gents

I am currently building up a 4G Engine and have a few questions to ask along the way, the first of which is:-

Next to the Crankshaft oil seal the drawing shows an "oil seal washer" (Part No. K147-53)

Does anyone know the purpose of this? Looks like my engine did not have one when I stripped it down. Is it steel or something else?

Drags show it as not stocked and am wondring if its straightforward to make. Does anyone have any Dimensions?

Many thanks

Alec

Can't remember the date of yours Alec? The '53' might mean it was only specified from 1953 on.

I notice that the washer appears in the drawing in Drags List 15, but is not listed. I don't have one in my '51 machine.

You would see it in the third picture of this post, if it were there:

When I first assembled my 4G it threw oil out of the primary chaincase in large quantities. So I fitted the oil seal which stopped the oil being thrown out. I did not fit the washer, which suggests it may not be necessary on a 4G.
