Batteries

Post by simon.holyfield »

Calling electrical experts...

I have a plastic box attached to my W/NG, in which are sealed two series connected VRLA batteries. I cannot see anything written on these batteries.

Currently they are showing about 2.5 V. I realize they are probably dead, but I would like to charge them to see if I can resurrect them.

With no markings, how can I tell if they are 6V or 12V?
cheers

Since you are getting no answers... If there's some voltage they can't be dead. Charge them with a headlamp globe in series and see what happens. Once they take some charge (if they do) you will get some idea of the voltage they are rated at. Nev

Thanks for the tip Nev. I put another battery in parallel, which got current moving from the charger - all good now.
cheers

Yes, but VRLA batteries have no caps on the cells so it's not so obvious. They were the size of a 6V battery though, and they looked like they had 3 cells each, and guess what? They were 6V batteries!
