Re: Rear footrest pedal
I always had it that the early W/NG's were supplied with ordinary rubber footrests front and rear but the spec was changed to all steel ones after Singapore fell and rubber supplies became increasingly difficult. On visits to REME workshops for overhaul/repair etc, the rubber footrests of the earlier bikes were replaced by the later type. I'm not sure at what date the spec was changed, though.

Re: Rear footrest pedal
You could likely pull the different parts lists for the various contracts.
Roughly speaking, you can go by the part number suffix to get an idea of year.
In this case the hanger has a suffix of 32 (i.e. 1932) and is unchanged. The actual cast peg (without rubber) of 1942.

Re: Rear footrest pedal
What I need for my 1942 is one 5542-42.
I was too lazy to go down to the basement and have a look in the spares book. I have the rest in NOS parts
