No Stock

Post by BUNNERS »

being new to the Ariel marque I am limited in my knowledge of availability, Is there any other supplier of parts other than D****s a lot of the things I require are listed as "NO STOCK" or on back order with no indication as to when this item will be available, it is very frustrating, I just want to progress the rebuild, if I stop what I am doing in the workshop without good reason I get a paint brush stuck in my hand from the Old Trout.
I HATE decorating.

Firstly Dave, I am a club member, I joined as soon as I got the Huntmaster. membership No 4817
Pete, thanks for your constructive suggestion of John Budgen, he was able to supply a rear sprocket.
Keith I have been into the 'World of classic bikes' since my first proper one purchased in 1968, A Triumph Tiger 100SS, this replaced the 250 Greeves I took my test on, they were not known as classic bikes then, just everyday transport.
My stable at this moment in time consists of:- 1946 Matchless G80, 1957 Matchless G3L trials, 1957 AJS 500 M18 trail bike, 1955 Triumph Speed Twin, 1965 BSA A50, 1971 Triumph Bonneville, 1960 Greeves Scottish, Suzuki Bandit 1200S, and the Ariel Huntmaster. which is my first venture into Selly Oak products. so as you can see I am not what you could call a classic bike virgin who thinks one can get parts from Halfords.
It was a simple and not unreasonable question I asked, are there alternative Ariel parts suppliers?

Hi bunners,

Drop an email over to the website admin, stating your member number, they will be able to colour code you so we are aware you are a club member.
A great many people look at the Draganfly website and get disheartened about out of stock items, but it is worth calling, as usually they know roughly when to expect stock back in. It is equally worth contacting Pete kemp (single spares) and Colin reed-aspley (twin spares), and even looking on eBay.
I don't think anyone would have been deliberately difficult regarding your original question, but we are a club with a long standing culture of taking the piss at every available opportunity, and long May that continue.

Let us know what you are struggling with, we can point you in the right direction.

Rob.

Oh, and for the record, you can buy certain useful items from halfords for a restoration, and I frequently do!

As it is a Huntmaster it will have a lot of parts in common with a BSA A10 so try C&D Autos.

Bunners,
Sorry if I hit a nerve there, but for some thing you just need to persevere. Tin ware is usually the most difficult to acquire. Other things you just have to get reconditioned although a lot of things are available through the club spares specialists. Otherwise, you might just have to get something made or adapted. Also, the waiting times can sometimes be long. What I have done is fit substitute parts whilst looking out for originals (I'm looking for some combination levers but with the exhaust lifter and advance retard combined).

Mudguards, I have had to get a blank and do it myself, and although perhaps not 100% like the original, most people probably wouldn't even notice!

We are a friendly bunch, yes, really..................

Keith
If you go to Waitrose for a loaf of bread and told it is on back order do you go home without it and wait for a delivery, or go to Asda.
Fortunately all the tin ware was there, except the Burgess air filter, and for some reason the battery strap, as were the original Amal leavers, and Alttet horn, Armstrong rear shocks also there. I also use substitute parts until originals become available unfortunately nuts bolts screw and some special fittings need to be as original. If I can work out how to do it I will post a photo of what I had to start with.
Unfortunately what started out as a simple question as to part suppliers has somewhat escalated.
