Clutch sprocket alignes inboard of engine sprocket, clutch basket has rubbed on chaincase. Assembly appears to be per IPC, any advance on bogus parts?

I had this problem once, and fixed it by using a six hole lockwasher placed between the chainwheel and clutch drum, to space the drum out slightly. I was not sure of the exact cause of the problem, it could be slight misalignment of the parts, or distortion/casting variations in the primary cases.
I have assumed it is not an example of using a early burman GB box in a later 56-59 setup, where the shorter mainshaft will pull the clutch assemby into contact with the primary outer case. The difference in length of the mainshafts is just over 1/8"
