Hi John
There are two different sizes or air filter box fitted to s/arm machines but the length of the bracket changed to ensure that the overall spacing of the two top and bottom mounting holes was the same, the complete boxes are therefore interchangeable but you cannot mix bottoms and tops. The filter rubber hole on the flat face is for a VB, the hole on the top horizontal edge is for an OHV single (NH, VH & HS)and the hole on the vertical side edge is for a twin (KH and FH). For the OHV singles version the part number changed in 1955 but for the twins the 1954 part number remained the same.

Re: Burgess air filter box
Thanks Ben, I have now modified my filter box by grinding and making the hole up onto the top. The rubber fits OK now so I will refit it, and hope nobody notices.
Cheers John
