Petrol level in carb.
Hi
Can someone please confirm or not that the "Pip" on the float bowl cover indicates the level of the petrol, I have read that it is but not in any Amal official literature.
I recently, but with great difficulty started the above, with plumes of black smoke and the plug sooting up very quickly, I estimated that the petrol level was approx. 10 mm above the "Pip".
Regards

Hi,
The following link may help you:-

For those who do not have the 'pip' on their float chamber cover, apparently it is approx the geometric centre of the cover.
Regards,
Keith.

Re: Petrol level in carb.
Thanks for the confirmation, I'll now go and adjust the float to set the petrol level correct. Just has an addition to datum the position of the "Pip", the diameter of the cover is 57 mm, the "Pip" is 30 mm from the bottom of the cover and 27 mm from the top and central about its horizontal plane.
Thanks again

Re: Petrol level in carb.
back in the day, we could get Monobloc float bowl covers with a glass (more probably plastic!) window in it so that the fuel level could be seen.
They were useful for setting-up carbs, though some people used to run with them all the time (and with finned float bowl extensions ).
Are they still available ?? (must do a Google Search) ??
Bob.
