1957 NH Re-Fresh
Re: 1957 NH Re-Fresh
Hi
If you swill the magnet in acetone or fuel to de-grease it and the debris you can get the stubborn 'fluff' off using self adhesive tape.
Regards Mick

Magnets now fitted.
Put a longer magnet in the oil tank hoping to 'catch' more of the oil in circulation

Re: 1957 NH Re-Fresh
What am I doing wrong / What have I missed.
The refresh has been a top end overhaul, and a renovation of the magneto.
The bike used to be a first time starter.
Today, I can only get an occasional spit back through the carburetor.
Carb has not changed. (Checked that I put the needle back on groove 3rd from the top when I fitted a new cable).
The magneto is giving a 'fat' spark at the plug (When earthed against the head).
Ignition timing is 1/2" before TDC, fully advanced. Using 'magneto timing light', not fag paper.
I just have a feeling that the timing is incorrect for some inexplicable reason.
Any thoughts?

MikeN.
PS Does anyone know the name of the cartoonist? I think it's from the 1960s.

I did a similar thing when I built up the Mk1 - it took my brain ages to get used to the fact that the front crank turns 'backwards'.
cheers

It takes maybe a quarter of an hour to retime the magneto. No time at all to retime a 2-magnet Thorspark
'cause it's got an idle spark and you'll never know. It only takes a few minutes to retime a single-magnet
Thorspark but it can take days for the aching in the right knee caused by all that fruitless kicking to subside.
Your mates of course never forget.
The cartoonist was Bill Thacker.
