Removing & Installing Sq4 motor Part 3

Post by chris.shearwood »

After lowering the jack such that the motor now sat on the plywood assembly which was sitting on the rods, it was simple to slide the motor to the left of the bike, pick it up and carry it to the work table. Don't drop it!

The plywood assembly is in place to receive the motor when it will be ready to go back in the frame.

After working on the motor, I decided to fit the pistons with their rings into their respective cylinders and then, with the crankcase again supported on a table and with the barrel hanging from the ceiling, I lowered the barrel, with the pistons hanging out the bottom, onto the rods, slid the gudgeon pins in, attached the circlips, lowered it some more and bolted the barrel to the crankcase ready for reinstallation into the frame. No need for a second person for any of this.

To fit the motor back in the frame it was a simple matter to reverse the above steps.
