Front brake hydraulic TLS conversion

Post by Richard.Carrigan »

I'll blame old age rather than beer, but I can't remember who I promised photos of the brake conversion I bought so I'll post them here and hope for the best.
I had thought it used a machined-down Mini brakeplate but it obviously doesn't. The internal mounting plate has '#02' scribed on it - does anyone know if a series of these were made?

Hello Richard,
I bought something similar (off Ebay) some time ago. When I first fitted it, it was rather 'incontinent' and always wanted to leak fluid from an internal banjo fitting behind the brake plate. After some modification and re-plumbing internally, it now works very well.

It uses shoes and cylinders from a late model BMC Mini with 2ls brakes.

I can't find the 'before' pictures which I took, but I attach an 'after' shot.
(Disclaimer: I do not offer this as a recommendation for others to try...)

(Sorry, I've no idea why the images rotated!)

The top one looks like one of Lew Wallwork's conversions. I've got one with a number scribed, but I can't remember the number. He did make a few of these before the twin Leading shoe conversions became widely available.
