Just a thought though, did you know that the hole for the foot rest on the primary covers is not in the same place on WN/G's. It's about 1/2'' different.

Steven,
This ''thought'' should be rewarded with a 5th Anorak!
Maybe Platinum?
ps. How did you find out?

Re: WNG prim chaincase and gearbox
Actually I'm thinking I might be wrong Paul, so you might want to take the anorak away.
It's a long story but it goes like this. My mate Alan with his late 1944 WNG had alloy primarys but he should have had the pressed steel ones. Well, he got lucky and got a pair. So he got it all stripped to put together only to find out that the foot rest holes are different between pressed steel and alloy primarys . That's the 1/2'' difference I was talking about. He ended up having to remove the engine plates to re position the footrest holders.
You what they say Paul, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Especially in my hands!!

Re: WNG prim chaincase and gearbox
Aha! it just dawned on me .....
My Burney used to have a steel chaincase.
Now it gets a alloy one.
The engine plates had two holes in each plate, very close to eachother.
Some looney must have been at it with his drill, I thought...so I welded one set up.
Only to find I welded the wrong pair up.
Since that I have seen more engine plates with two holes each, did they come ex factory like that?

I think they did Vincent, although I'd have to question Alan to find out. I'll ask him to look at his parts list but I seem to remember he said something about two different part numbers for the engine plates.

Re: WNG prim chaincase and gearbox
I have a set of engine plates (rear) that have intersecting holes for the foot rest long stud. At a guess I would think they came from a W/NG and were supplied like that. Both holes are the same look and if done by hand would exhibit some variation I expect. Model late 44 would have had the steel primary. I have one on the bench and will check it against an alloy one. ( Not tonight though). Nev

Here's the two different part numbers, Alan says the foot rest holes are around 15mm different
