W/NG Choppy

Better start a separate thread about the W/NG

A few pictures as a starter:

The bit I have is straight.....

Underneath all grime the alloy still looks pretty.
Never noticed before that the crankcase halves number also is used in the camshaft housing.
Poured some oil in the bottom to see if it will loosen up a bit...

Frame and engine numbers tie up with the factory record, in itself a small wonder as most of the time things got for ever separated at the REME workshops

It lookslike the rear is cut with a torch, to demobilise war material?

One can never have enough Ariel projects.
The Hermanator, the KH ánd this one will get done eventually :D

A few bits of 1" tubing will solve this :|

Yes it's torched off, it left the works on the 15th of May 1944 in slightly more complete order

Inside it looks 'o.k.'

These come in handy now.

Vincent re "Never noticed before that the crankcase halves number also is used in the camshaft housing".

What a great bit of info...just checked my 1939 VH and I also have a match :D

So this must mean the camshaft plain bearing housings were line bored with the inner timing case assembles to the crankcase and / or the camshaft plain bushes were line reamed after being fitted. Whatever the case a nice piece of history. Got to be worth a few brownie points in the originality stakes :D

Cheers

You bet I have fun !

Bought a rear hub yesterday, it has a different brakeplate, anyone know what make this is ?
It fits and looks substantial, but not Ariel, or is it ?
