I was wondering that as well Adam. Looking at a picture of the abutment washer on Drags website, it’s difficult to be certain based on dimensions.

It is quite thick and looks to be a separate item as it got surface rust 👍

Not sure this will help you at all but I have a pre war machine and also remember the flat section of the spindle was about the same length as the threaded part.

I am working on a fairly original 1950 rigid machine at the moment and looked at the wheel today, the washer is between the locking nuts, which is different from the position on the Draganfly drawing. I’m fairly sure this is how I assembled the pre was bike as well. It might give you more adjustment?

Below should be an image of my wheel spindle:

My spare wheel hasn't got the bearings in it so I can't help there.

Thank you gents
I can see my spindle is part of the problem. I’ll machine it down to size tomorrow and extend the thread on the flattened side.
I also think I am missing an abutment washer. Together I think this will sort it out.
Cheers

Following on for this thread - can anyone tell me the dimensions of the abutment washers for front and rear please? Part numbers front 4041-32 and rear

Thanks in advance

While my spare wheel hasn't any bearings the abutment washers are still
in place.

1.750" OD, 1.375" ID and 0.128" thick.

These measurements were taken with an elderly 'very-nearly' of unknown
accuracy but as long as the washer goes into the hub they are probably
good enough for a replica to be made.

Draganfly seem to have them in stock:

Thank you Will, I will see if I can find something to fit.

The front ones are a different part number, so I assume are a different size, but maybe the same thickness?

Drags don't carry the front ones in stock!

Steve,

If you have access to a lathe or a friend with one, make them the same thickness. I had to make my own as they are a different diameter, or at least they were for my front hub! You will also have to make the dust covers too unless you have some as again due to the different diameter they are not available from drags.

Good luck!

Post the dimensions (diameter) of the dust covers you need on here. I have some which don't fit my civilian bikes but which I don't want to throw away. They have probably been in the box for upwards of 30 years by now so it would be good to find something they fit.
