Just filling the forms in to change it to historic vehicle, it does not need mot and has insurance
so good to go soon, I am one of those that never see a cop but let me ride a un-taxed
bike 10 yards and one will be on my tail.

Seems to be running ok, battery charging lights work,
needs a clutch cable and a fuel filter as there's a bit
of muck coming out of the tank and the puddle under
the silencer is water, does a steady drip drip when ticking
over, just like my old Morini had to drill a hole in the bottom
of the silencer on that to stop it rotting them.

Yep I agree, I have been thinking of going led, the headlight bulb holder could also do with replacement.

A big part of the noise on my NG seems to come from excessive end float on the rockers
any idea how much float there should be and are springs or spacers/shims used?

No shims or springs, just a fixed spacer washer on the W/NGs.. Most noise in Ariel singles comes from the cam followers being an "ordinary" (read worn) fit on the shaft they pivot on. There's not much end thrust on the rockers as the push rods are very close to vertical. ..Nev
Note a change here. The end float is determined by the dimensions of the shaft which pulls up against the pushrod side of the rocker box including a steel washer about 1/8th inch " thick. The rocker is trapped between the washer and the larger diameter of the non oil feed end. I never recommend thin shims on a situation such as this. Better to accept the extra play which is unlikely to cause any issues. It's well lubricated and usually doesn't change in end float. Not so with the earlier greased ones. Nev
