The F cam on the right is for a WNG and has 5-55-60-20 as timing.
The twin lobe cam in the middle has 22-70-70-25
The single lobe 'A' cam has 26-77-70-33
What cam should I choose to give a WNG a bit more poke ?
Go for the 'A 'cam ? (with longer pushrods)

Next one.

WNG crankshaft weighs 1 kilo less then a '54 NH crankshaft.
For speedier (....) pick up a WNG crank would be fine, but would a heavier crank be better in the long run (whatever that is)

Today I bought two crankcases , one from a RAF WNG with RBH code and one from a 1949 NH .
The NH crankcase bears the code DJ2050X
What would that 'X' mean ? I have not seen the numbers ending with a letter before.

Weighed the steel NH crank and it is even a bit heavier then a later cast NH crank.

The steel crank; both cheeks are drilled and tapped for the sludge trap .
I have seen this before on a steel VH crank.
Was the factory only making one stamping and just used two of the same for building a crank ?
If so, they could have told the guy who was drilling and tapping the sludge trap holes that he only needed to do half of them...

Picture shows a look down the sludge trap hole  timing side....

More oddities inside the 1949 steel crank, a pretty daring bodge....
NH bigend.JPG
One roller sideways ! but not enough room for a extra roller, would it have run this way ??
conrods (1).JPG
Rod from this steel crank on top, standard WNG rod below.
I thought for a moment that they had used a VH rod with the hole excentric.
It has a pretty large lump of material on the lower part of its eye.
Part numbers are the same so is the working lenght.
Anyone seen this before ?
