More progress today, Pistons back in, barrel de glazed and refitted, and made the bracket for the oil filter. I have also fitted an in line anti wet sumping valve and have bent and soldered the oil lines.

I'm not sure Chris to be honest. They are very wide coils on them but they also feel very firm. They are just eBay ones, probably Indian.

I will have to see how they cope with my 13 stone, but ultimately, as the bike needs to be sold to help pay for our first home, it will be down to the person who buys it from me to decide. I also have a dual seat for it which would be preferable with any serious use to help feel a little firmer being as it is a plunger.

Anyhow, got the mudguard fitted today!

Rob,
I don't know whether I'm sorry that you have to sell the bike or what. Buying your first home is always a good step. Selling the bike probably necessary - I had to do the same with my 850 Commando back in 1984 when I decided to repatriate to the UK with wife and baby daughter in tow.

Trouble is I have never been able to replace it; Do at least ride the bike a bit before you part company, if you can!

Well, it needs to go reasonably quickly after it has been finished, but I hope I can use it a little bit! I will be very sorry to see it go, it is a lovely bike with great history and I've spent a lot of time trying to do it justice, but that said, we want to buy and are looking forward to getting something we can make our own, so I expect I will be sticking to the VH for the next few years until the funds build again!

The good news for you Keith, if you wanted to you could treat yourself to a nice new commando!

If only,
just had to fork out £3K to finance my son's HND.

I thinks I'd really like one like the MK 2 like I had before!

Head went on today, having cleaned and painted it with engine enamel, and reground the valves.
I have also fitted the magneto, but haven't timed the ignition yet.
Plan for tomorrow - primary side.

Managed to get the primary side sorted today, took a long time to polish the chaincases but they look great! Also fitted the chainguards, just need to borrow the riveting tool from work to put the half link on the final drive chain and we are good and all chained up.
