At last the petrol tank. This one is Indian. The mounting plates had to be removed and repositioned. The tank has a nasty skew or wind in the bottom which necessitates different height tank rubbers. Here the tank had been masked for the gold lines. The masking is being removed.

The finished tank. I am not sure of the green and could not find anyone with an accurate colour for 1953. The best I could get is a little darker than the prior green so that is what I did. The tank lining came from the Danish Ariel web site

A happy new year to all.

The finished bike. (I still have to buy the badge motif and paint, the handlebar controls need chrome and I need gear indicator pointers). As you can see not exactly original but looks close. I will fit a GB gearbox when a suitable one becomes available but for the moment I am enjoying the smoother change of the BA.

The VB is also very nice to ride around town but lacks a bit for country work. the engine is now run in, so I am bound to try some cam or follower changes to improve the performance, and I believe 80 - 85mph should not be too difficult. So far it has just reached 75mph on the dial.

Judging by your metalwork skils David you'd be all over a sewing machine. I've enjoyed reading all of this, it encourages me to try harder to learn a few more skills myself, maybe painting next!!

A pity you were not born around 1870, David. The AOMCC might have been the Anderson Owners Motor Cycle club!

I always enjoy seeing the the restoration of a collection of discarded bits into a working machine, Flight of the Phoenix and all that,i have enjoyed collecting the bits to build my own Bitsa the hunt for fair priced correct good condition items always seems a worthwhile pastime, so seeing post like this is always encouraging and informative.
Happy new Year David.

A excellent write-up, thanks for that.

You put me to shame. I also turn up parts on a lathe and weld stuff but you have far greater skill than I do, well done.

I'm now encouraged to stop eating Christmas sweets while watching telly and get out to the workshop - where numerous projects are awaiting my attention  .

A Very Happy New Year to one and all.

Bob.

David,
Any chance you coming over to give me some lessons?

Please accept this in exactly the way it is meant; you are amazing!

The bike looks beautiful and it is made more so because so much was hand crafted and not bought. I take my hat off to you!!

Happy New Year and keep being an inspiration to us all!!

David,
What thickness was the copper head gasket that you cut? I'd like to do the same in due course, although I've an ordinary composite to carry on with. I note that on the BSA M20 forum that solid copper is deemed the right way to go (and for SV Nortons too) but there's a fair bit of discussion on the right thickness.
Regards, Mike Nash.
(And thanks for an inspiring thread.)
