1948 Square Four

So I have begun the process of getting the Square back together.

The frame and various other components are away at Redditch Shotblasting to get a coat of powder. Various other bits which looked okay at first glance need more attention than expected. I guess stuff gets dented and scratched when it is dismantled for so long. Paint prep this weekend, possibly get some painting done in the evenings this week.

Fortunately most of the fasteners are stainless so they can be reused with no problem.

Lots to do!

I went and collected the bits from the powder coaters on Thursday. Had a bit of spare time in the garage yesterday evening, so would you believe it, I’ve got the frame and rear stand on.

Really pleased with the quality of the powder, just a huge amount of prep work to do to make the paint as good.

Time has not been on my side of late, still, I’ve managed to put my forks together and back on the bike, and I’ve painted most of the bits that needed to be redone.

Fingers crossed for a bit of progress over winter!

What is it about laying a nice coat of paint on a panel which makes bugs come and land on it!

I’ve made some more progress over the weekend. Several items cut back and polished, which I am mostly happy with.

Front wheel is in the boot of the car, ready for me to remove the old tyre with the tyre machine at work. Soon be rolling!

Leave the insects to their grisly fate and cut the paint back when it's hardened.. Nev

More progress. The excellent Geoff Brown has helped me out with some gearbox spares, but I’ve just noticed damage to another gear and the sprocket is also knackered, so another order on the way!

My aim today was to rebuild the gearbox, but after finding the damaged gear, I decided more bodywork was the order of the day. Beginning to look like a bike again.

Some more progress has been made, since I emptied the bank at Stafford at the weekend, but helps me get much further.

Gearbox is in thanks to Geoff and some fast spares, and we have a front wheel and handlebars!
