On to fin repairing, always (well, to me) a bit of a nerving thing...
Made a set up with my pottery kiln and a electric stove to keep the heat in the cylinder while welding.
(electric stove I once liberated from the scientology church rubbish bin, but that's another story  )
cranked the kiln to 280 C. MIG welder on 6 with low wire speed.
No pics of the actual welding.... gloves to thick to push any buttons :D
Happy with the result after some grinding with the Dremel.

few nuts and a bit of tin sheet to get the position right.
(yes I did burn out the nyloc before work..)

If I make it to the Dutch this year I will buy you a pint and you can tell me the story of liberating a kiln from the scientology church rubbish bin

Shall I let the tension rise and wait till the German rally or ....?

If I wait I'll have those beers up front, once those have settled in the tale only gets wilder

Or... It could be just another douchebagstory.... :D

Klaus, funny thing with this iron welding..
If the parts are mine it goes o.k.
If the parts are not mine I'll fuck up and crack them

I'm curious about this - are you MIG-welding mild steel repair pieces onto cast iron (or have I got it wrong)??

From what I have read and seen on 'You-Tube', it would be best to braze cast iron pieces onto cast iron because of the different coefficients of expansion between cast and mild steel (and MIG wire).

The repair does look good though.
