Long Top Stanchion Bushes

Post by MGriffin »

Hi there,
I understand the different length top stanchion bushes for progressive rebound damping on the tiered hole stanchions but on the earlier single height hole stanchions is there any physical reason why the long top bushes cant be used?

I’m thinking i would leave the bushes at the later model length to give more support and maybe even further reduce the oil making its way to the seal.

Thanks for any feedback.
Michael.
Regards
Michael.

The travel available will be reduced and thus increase the chances of toping out.

The stanchions are the same length but the extra length of the bush means the rebound can't go 'up' so far as the limit is reached when there is contact between the upper and lower bushes.

There are quite a few discussion threads about fork damping on the Forum but this might be a good one to start with, with regard to early and late Ariel designs :

Ok thanks.
I’ve returned to using the shorter bush.

If it's repaired correctly you won't wear it out in our lifetimes the way we ride them today. Nev
