VH bronze head valve lifter

Post by GraemeLangley »

Good evening
I have a 1934 ariel special with a bronze head on a vh engine. I have the exhaust valve lifter in the rocker cover and I can see the slotted hole the cable needs to go through but do not have an adjuster. I have scoured the books and parts lists but have not been able to find a picture. Is anyone able to put a picture of what it should look like on here please and maybe advise on a threaded cable adjuster to purchase.

Many thanks in advance
I have attached a couple of pictures.

Regards
Graeme

355-34 on pages 4 and 5 of '35 parts book in members area?? (or 6 and 7 in '37)
Also it looks like you have the exhaust valve 'lubrication' hole in your head? - pipe work also in '35 parts book.

Thanks, I did check it out in the parts book I'm not sure how the assembly goes together though. Any idea where the parts might be available from?

Sorry to be a pain, which is the lubrication hole you've identified?

It is the hole just in from the spring shroud in the middle fin just by the end of the threaded end of the lifter - there should be another by the inlet valve as well?

The casting for the heads anticipate the later side entry for the inlet valve with a blank 'butress' but is not drilled out - some design discussion going on there! Would be interesting to see what your head has on the nearside.

I'll post a picture or two tomorrow of a VG head...

Someone may have a spare adjuster knocking about; having deigned to go for the later '38 head which solves the lubrication issues in a better and less messy way

Thanks very much, this is my first Ariel so a steep learning curve!
I'll see if I have the inlet side on a picture as well.

The thread is 1/4 CEI, the adjuster for sv models is almost the same, S25-2 and readily available from your local dealer, the lock nut is 361-31 currently out of stock but is a std nut with a slot inserted courtesy of a hacksaw.

Here, as promised, are some pictures of a '34/'35 head showing to top oil feeds but with a blank 'buttress'.

A comparison to the later head where the top feeds are un-drilled but the boss or 'buttress'
